TCR Summer Program

High School students in both the United States and Korea are given too little opportunity to develop the academic expository (nonfiction) reading and writing skills they will need in college and beyond, no matter what field they will enter later.

Will Fitzhugh, founder and editor of The Concord Review, the only journal in the world for the academic history research papers of secondary students, will offer, from June 29 to July 10, 2015, a two-week course in the reading of history and the writing of history research papers for interested secondary students.

Since 1987, The Concord Review has published 104 issues, with 1,143 exemplary history research papers, (average 6,000 words, or 24 pages, with Chicago-style endnotes and bibliography) by high school students from 40 countries. Thirty percent of these authors have been accepted at Harvard(125), Princeton(67), Stanford(51), and Yale(107).

This two-week course will only be a short introduction to the process of the research for and the writing of strong history papers, but students who take it seriously will find they are better able to manage not only their college essays, but also the other academic expository writing assignments they will face in the future. The course will be conducted by Samantha Wesner, a Harvard graduate in history, who is the Managing Editor of The Concord Review.

More information about The Concord Review may be found at tcr.org. where there are also samples of published essays.
Mr. Fitzhugh is a graduate of Harvard College and has been reading history for 35 years.
